I am today's old learning that what I have always felt has a name: misanthropy.
I join the ranks of many creatives throughout humanity's existence. It's not easy to attempt to relate to others of our kind, and some of us resort to dropping out entirely from the endeavor, and resolve to befriend plants and animals. I do both. I'm probably not that great at it but it works out better than the former.
I am having a good week, despite the 3 digits temps every single day. It's August. This month is somewhat suspicious to me and I try to lay low. The fire in a house in my hood a few years ago was in August. I saved the hood that day, and, potentially, saved the country from a devastating forest fire...therefore I saved money and resources, all by being in the right place at the right time and not hesitating to call 911. I wasn't sure the smoke I was seeing wasn't from a cooking fire outdoors but my consciousness knew and I did not doubt. The smoke was rising too fast.
My quick response was precisely what was needed because the dude from the home had not called anyone - he was trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. And no other neighbors saw it because they either weren't home or were indoors with AC on and not seeing what was happening. Anyway, by the time the fire crew arrived (in trucks, helis, and airplanes, the fire was going uphill toward the forest, and its floor was covered in dry tinder for miles. The house was burned completely.
No one thanked me and I didn't go around telling them that I saved them but I know this for a fact. I think that maybe the fire captain told me that I did the right thing. I also filmed the entire thing, and I believe my video was enough for them to see that the fire wasn't accidental because at some point they put handcuffs on the guy.
I wish I knew the result of the investigation.
